    Non-destructive testing, or NDT, is a standard practice in many industries, including manufacturing, energy, railroads, and aviation. NDT looks for irregularities in the object being tested using a variety of technologies.     Depending on how well the software and testing instruments are calibrated, automated tests can cover a greater surface area and a greater variety of materials. Software for testing can be tailored to meet particular needs, providing more flexibility for inspections. Automated UT scanners can automatically scan simple and complex structures at various angles and directions by running across multiple tracks, which covers a wide test radius. Automated testing is significantly faster than manual testing because it does not require adjustment to scan every structure.

    Non-destructive testing frequently takes place in dangerous environments, near toxic chemicals, or next to large machinery. Technicians who work in such environments run the risk of suffering an injury or being exposed to health risks. By automating NDT, the technician is not physically present at the test site. Instead, they are involved in calibrating and managing the testing tool and software. As a result, the operator or technician’s health and safety standards are improved.

    Not every situation is suited for automated NDT. The initial outlay is higher, and in certain instances, the technology heavily relies on human labor for tasks like manually calibrating automation software, which makes adaptation both economically impractical. Therefore, it is probably more practical to manually inspect simple materials or objects.
