Precautions You Should Take If You Are Diagnosed With Arrhythmias

If you have arrhythmias, or if you are at risk for developing them, it is important to know the precautions that you should take. For those who have just been diagnosed with arrhythmias, the news might be something of a big shock. However, there are various things that can help even in this situation. By taking note of these precautions and implementing them into your daily life, as well as following your heart doctor’s advice, you can significantly decrease your odds of experiencing an adverse event later on down the line.

What Are The Causes of Arrhythmias?

According to Cardiologists in Nagpur Arrhythmias can have numerous causes, but the most common ones are:

    1. Smoking Alcohol abuse and drug use, including street drugs like cocaine or methamphetamines. Many of these drugs can cause an irregular heartbeat. Legal drugs such as caffeine and nicotine can also cause heart trouble.

    2. Exposure to chemicals such as carbon monoxide or nitrates that are found in many products, from gasoline to pesticides. Carbon monoxide is also found in cigarette smoke. These substances can narrow the blood vessels and make it harder for your heart to pump blood through your body properly.

    3. Heart defects you were born with (congenital). If you have a heart defect and are at risk for arrhythmias, the condition can get worse as you age.

    4. Heart disease, especially coronary artery disease (CAD). If you have damaged arteries, heart cells can die from lack of blood supply. When this happens, scar tissue replaces the dead cells. The scar tissue makes it harder for your heart muscle to contract and relax properly. This is known as ischemic cardiomyopathy or dyskinetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). DCM is often caused by coronary artery disease.

    5. Infections that spread to your heart or rest of your body through the bloodstream.

    6. A heart infection is called endocarditis. Heart valves that have blocked, or become stiff and leaky can cause arrhythmias.

    Precautions to take

Firstly, it is important that you determine the cause of your arrhythmia. This means that if you have been taking various medications, if you have a family history of heart disease, etc., it is necessary to determine what these things are and which ones are causing your arrhythmia.

Secondly, it is important that you learn about the medications that you should not be taking. There are many medications that can have adverse effects on arrhythmias, so it is important to make sure that you do not take them. Some examples of these medications include nicotine, as well as ethanol in high doses of 3 to 4 drinks or more a day. These can cause arrhythmias without fail in some individuals and they need to avoid taking them if they are at risk. This also goes for illegal drugs or alcohol in large amounts, so it is important to avoid these altogether when treating an arrhythmia.

Finally, it is important that you learn how to manage your arrhythmia. There are various medications that can help in this regard and they should be used as soon as possible. You might choose to use a CRT or a nuclear antidote, in which case you should begin taking these immediately. However, if you are experiencing what is known as a VT or VF cardiac arrest, you will need to make sure that there is someone present who can do CPR and bring the heart back from the brink of death.

If you feel anything mentioned above you should visit a cardiologist immediately.

In case if you are seeking a cardiologist I will suggest you pay a visit to Dr. Vina Bang. Dr. Bang is one of the best doctors in Nagpur Maharashtra having experience of 13 years. The search for your healthcare ends here.
