What Does Your Gum Swelling Say?

Gum swelling can be a sign of many kinds of dental problems. They work similarly to how your car’s check engine light indicates when a problem arises. Swollen gums perform a similar function in alerting you that something is wrong. Your general dentist will be able to identify the problem by identifying the associated symptoms. If you are suffering from swollen gums, contact general dentistry jamison pa for a checkup.

What does your gum swelling say?

The first sign of gingivitis is usually swollen gums, especially if they bleed or are inflamed and red. The most typical cause of developing swollen gums is gingivitis. The collection of bacteria in plaque causes gum inflammation, leading to the initial stage of gum disease. If you discover that your gums are a bit inflamed and the swelling does not go away with brushing and flossing, see the general dentist for a check-up and cleaning. Gingivitis symptoms are generally small at first. If you have gingivitis, you should get treatment immediately to avoid it becoming periodontitis, a more serious gum illness.

    • An infection

Gum swelling can be an indication of a viral or fungus illness. Thrush is a type of fungal infection that may grow your gums. Speak with your doctor if you also get an unusual white rash so that they may issue you an antifungal medication. If you have a history of herpes, you are at greater risk of suffering from acute herpetic gingivostomatitis, which also results in swollen gums. Infections caused by decaying teeth may end up in abscesses and swollen gums.

    • Vitamin deficiency

Your gums may swell if you lack sufficient of a few vitamins. The most common vitamin deficits that lead to sore gums are vitamin C and vitamin B deficiencies. You may want to take into consideration that a lack of vitamins could be an issue if you have gum swelling and a poor diet. Even if malnutrition is a rare cause of swollen gums, you should take it into thought, especially if you are a senior adult.

    • Pregnancy

You might have swollen gums as a result of pregnancy. The increased supply of blood to the gums brought on by pregnancy hormones can result in swelling. Due to these hormonal changes, you may also be more prone to periodontitis and gum infections.

    • Aggressive brushing and flossing

Flossing and brushing your teeth are essential for ideal dental health. However, you risk causing more harm than good if you approach it too forcefully. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and mild brushing movements to avoid the negative consequences of rigorous brushing.
