Bed bugs are insects from the Genus Climex family, which usually lurk at night and primarily consume blood. They are the cause of skin irritations and redness of the body. They are found in multiple areas, but they usually like to stay in the bedroom. Hence the name “bed bugs.”

Bed bug infestation is one of the challenges every owner faces. Aside from constant pain during the night, they are annoying and difficult to control. However, unlike other pests, they don’t carry a higher risk to your health. But it doesn’t mean that you are safe from them.

Many of you may wonder how these creatures can transferred into your home. Well, there are multiple reasons. Starting from the obvious one and to the least expected one. But can bed bug infestations still be controlled? Yes, and here is how.

    Transferred from Used Furniture

These tiny creatures are brilliant; they can hide in plain sight without being detected. And sometimes, they are seen in prominent areas, but they can still multiply.

The most common way a bed bug can transfer into your home is through used furniture. Sofas, chairs, and other furniture are a potential transport of bed bugs from coming into your home. Homeowners who love to buy from thrift stores and yard sales have a higher risk of getting infested by bed bugs.

Furthermore, once the used furniture is inside your home, bed bugs can begin to crawl the nearest body heat they sensed to your bedroom. They are always left unnoticed since they usually move during the nighttime.

However, disinfecting and cleaning the used furniture outside the house can efficiently be prevented. Let the used furniture sit in the sun for a few hours to ensure the bed bugs won’t hitchhike their way into your peaceful home. Applying bed bug sprayers can lessen your chance of being infested.

    Luggage and backpacks

Luggage and backpacks are also a way of transport for bed bugs to get inside your home. But how can your things become a transit? Aside from other causes when bugs hitchhike their way into your home, there are a few common causes too. The bed bugs are hiding in public transit, such as buses, taxis, trains, and other ride-shared vehicles.

Putting your backpack and luggage in public vehicles is normal, especially if they are heavy. However, this is the opportunity that a bed bug can travel its way into different places. As long as they sense body heat, they can easily crawl toward it to survive.

If you come from outside your home, ensure to disinfect every area of your luggage and backpack thoroughly. Put your clothes in the washing machine, too, if needed. Before you let any materials touch the floor of your home, make sure that it’s clean. It is a simple way to prevent infestation without spending a single penny.

    Public Place and Hotels

Bed bugs are resilient creatures. They can survive for a long time without consuming food. They are pros when it comes to jumping from one place to another until they find a place where they can rest, live, and eventually breed. Their mission is to find a warm place like a hotel, apartments, used furniture, and other public places.

Unlike other pests that are introverts, bed bugs love going to places with a large population density. That includes parks, malls, stores, etc. Hotels and apartments are where a lot of people stay. If a bed bug finds its way to a residential building, it will have more chances of surviving.

It doesn’t matter whether the places you’ve been to are grimy or immaculate. Bed bugs will always find a way to grab onto something so they can get indoors.

Avoiding public places is impossible since they are part of a person’s life. However, have a consistent cleaning routine to prevent the bed bug from going home with you. Ensure that after coming from a public place or a hotel, the things you have don’t reach the floor or any unclean spaces. And just to be sure, always bring disinfectant with you.

How to prevent bed bugs infestations

If the infestation is not widespread, getting rid of bed bugs becomes easier. The first way that anyone can do this is by picking up clutter. Bed bugs like to hide. Removing items or things blocking their hiding spot will force them to move to another location, making it easier for you to get rid of them.

The next is to have a scheduled routine for using your vacuum. Use the vacuum to suck out tiny debris on the floor, especially the carpet. Cracks, mattresses, box springs, and bed frames are the areas you need to focus on, as it is where bed bugs used to live and hide.

Cleanliness is a must. Regularly wash your mattress, bedsheets, clothes, and your blanket. Please use the dryer and hang them in the sun for a few hours, ensuring that all the bed bugs and offspring are gone.

The last step that you can do is to call a bed bug company in Red Lion, PA. In severe cases, pesticides can no longer remove bed bugs. They can instantly move to another area where there’s no chemical just for them to survive. Professionals use multiple ways to get rid of bed bugs. They ensure the root is gone, for they do not grow anymore, which is more effective than using a bug spray.

Bed bug infestation can be frustrating. It’s normal to get frustrated. However, you can get rid of them in multiple ways. There’s nothing wrong with trying prevention tips to lower your chance of bed bug exposure.
