The first screw machine was made during 1800s for mass production of same parts, such as bolts and screws. During that time, Switzerland opened the first Screw machine shops and became the leading manufacturer of timepieces, machines, optics, and measuring instruments, to name a few. These products needed precision-machine parts such as pins, shafts, bolts, and screws. Most of these products would have been highly costly without a robust and reliable machine for mass production of these critical components with consistency and repeatability.
Types Of Screw Machines
There are two primary types of screw machines: Swiss and Turret. The Swiss machine is called after its birthplace, Switzerland, where the watchmakers used it for precision components, where the workpiece will be mounted on the rotary slide. It then allows the screw machine to cut and implement the needed specification. The turret, on the other hand, is also called Brown and Sharpe. It is named after its manufacturer. This machine fits the workpiece on the vertical ram that works into the lathe allowing the production of highly accurate and precise parts in bulk.
- Swiss Screw Machine
For creating accurate implements, this type of machine is the best option. In addition to its CNC Machine components, this machine can perform a wide range of operations simultaneously. It can significantly expedite the machining process. Swiss machine is also programmable for cutting within 0.0002 inches tolerance with the range of 10.000 RPMs. This type of RPM is not available with other CNC machines and many CNC Machined Components Manufacturers prefer Swiss screw machine.
Most applications can be used with this process, and the automotive industry is one such industry that heavily relies on this machine.
Features Of Swiss Screw Machine:
- Severe precision output.
- Short cycle times.
- Massive construction, high rigidity, and short tool throw.
- Turret Screw Machine
This type of machine can produce machining parts in bulk such as screws and bolts in bulk. However, when you visit the Screw machine shops, you will see many differences.
The lathe of the turret machine is a rotatable round vise that will clamp around the round part like the shaft and spin it on its axis, allowing the tool to come in from any angle around it for conducting the machining process on the head portion. This machine can maintain the whole process after that the point will release the portion and fall into the machine’s bottom.
The turret machine moves in the steel’s length for creating the screws, it will also lock the turret machining process, and starts to spin while using the items and tools for making the head of the bolt, joint, or screw. There is also another tool located on the side that cuts the thread. The disk at the front slices the screwdriver slot in the screw’s head, and then the cut-off tool will cut the completed screw off the rod. Then the machine will complete and release the material, push the rod forward. After this, the turret machine will repeat the process.
Turret screw machines can repeat the process precisely and rapidly, except for feeding in the inventory lengths with minimal human interference. The user programs the operation mechanically with the sequences of levers, cams, indexing changes, clamps, and fixtures. Every motion will be timed precisely and set the master cam for the whole sequence of making CNC Machine components.
CNC Machined Components Manufacturers stated that most modern screw machines are programmable through the personal computer, and you can purchase the program in seconds through a smartphone and control the computer of the screw machine. You can also track the quality control measurement made by the screw machine.
